Pajero: Side shaft pulled out

Hi there,

My Gen 3 (2003 LWB DID) Pajero has got approximately 240k on and it is going as strong as ever. However, on a recent trip from Natal North coast to JHB, I noticed while filling up with diesel plenty of oil dripping at the back. I immediately suspected the well-known side shaft problem (right hand side). (https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =25&t=1853)

The Mitsubishi garage in Pietermaritzburg helped us out and we were on the road again 4 hours later, happy but somewhat poorer. We were fortunate that the diff did not suffer any damage and that the dealership had the parts in stock (rubber seal and MR410469 clip). Given that only the right hand side was replaced I was worried about the left hand side so, on return, I purchased 2 of these metal clips (R26 each, 1 spare and 1 for the left hand side) and asked my independent to fit it for me. He had the following to say… 30 min job, had to use a very long lever to get the left hand side out, but ultimately not an issue.

My advice would be to treat this metal clip that holds the side shaft in place (part MR410469) like a consumable and replace both (approximately) every 100’000 when you change diff and gearbox oils.

I think it is cheap at the price.

Regards
G

Hi there. Thanks for the info, I got the same probleme but the side shaft only comes out when it is in 4x4 ofr 4x4 with diff lock. Fortunately I lost a lot of oil and the diff has a humming sound now.
