Gearbox selector switch???

Hi all
I've had this issue twice before, but both times in Lesotho. I am in D and when trying to select N or R, she's stiff and one battles to push it into R..... I thought it was the snow packed under the car.
Then this morning (taking a short cut along gravel ,Errr mud roads) and some very wet road and highway use, i couldn't get into R to reverse park...
Selector switch mechanism? Was at Mitsubishi, but they were all glued to the TV watching the ceremony.....
