Hi guys

After replacing the OME shocks (14 years old) with Monroes the ride is greatly improved, but the gat still drags, and does occasionally bottom out. I took her first to Suspensiona nd Service centre in Pinetown, where Heinz really spent some time with me, and the vehicle. He recommended remanufactured coils at R3000 incl fitment. he would also do any corrective work necessary such as sway bars etc etc.(I really liked this).

Also called some of the bigger 4x4 chains for quotes on OME coils, and they all come in at R4500 or thereabouts but no one mentioned/was interested/knew about the possibility of corrective work.

I guess my question is are remanufactured springs a good idea? Surely being a specialist, I cant go wrong? Or do I just bite the bullet and get OME coils from guys who only really know how to fit, not diagnose and correct any problem that may occur?

Sorry I should say that the coils are OME, also fitted in 2000. The previous owner did a lot of very heavy towing, and the springs have sagged. I suspect the front torsion bars were originally cranked up to match the coils' lift, but now that the coils have sagged its a bit nose up.

Perhaps corrective adjustments arent necessary because I will bring the coils back to what they were for years (post 2000) but I was really comforted by Heinz saying he would look at it without me even raising it. and I guess a R1500 saving would also pay for the new speakers I want to fit

Just picked up my pajero from suspension centre in pinetown. They manufactured new heavy duty coils for me.

WOW. The difference is unbelievable. The lift is about 25mm but I wasn't after much of a lift anyway, but the tail is not sagging at all and the ride comfort is unbelievably improved.

And it should be... one of my coils was actually broken. See pic

I find it hard to believe that you actually drove with that broken coil.
It would have caused that corner to sag a lot, and would have made one hell of a noise.

Maybe it was damaged and broke while they were removing it?

I'm not sure. I think the coil was cracked but essentially still in place. judging by the wear on the actual cracked surface it's been cracked clean through for awhile.

either way, I'm very chuffed I had this done now.

Agreed.
You don't want it to fail in the middle of nowhere, with a fully loaded vehicle!
