Mapungubwe is a park divided!. Leokwe Camp is in the eastern side. Mazhou Camp is in western side.

Access to Mazhou
There is no interleading public access between the two sections of Mapungubwe.

You have to check in at the main reception in the eastern section before proceeding to Mazhou.

After checking in, to reach Mazhou exit eastern section at the main gate. Turn west on tar R572. Drive until you come to a T-junction (maybe 15km). Alldays south, Pontdrift north. Turn north on tar R521. Avoid may potholes. After maybe 8km or so turn east on gravel at junction marked Rhodesfield. (If you reach the Limpopo you have gone too far!) Pass citrus and tomato plantations. Cross cattle grid. Enter small security gate on left. Sign in.

Camp is about 2 - 3km from security gate. Lovely shaded camp, partially fenced (might deter a passing elephant if the gate was closed, but certainly won't deter predators). Lovely trees, bush babies, bushbuck, plenty birds, scops owls etc. Heard lion roaring while we were there but that came from across river (Tuli Block). Clean central ablutions & kitchen area, plenty hot water. Informative camp manager (Dan). Sites have power. Unfortunately no river view from camp. 10 camp sites in quite close proximity.

There is a sort of small general dealer just before Pontdrift to top up with cool drinks (cheaper that at garage outlets!), tinned food, living essentials.
