PIA Battery Drain

Gents any advice here much appreciated.

I have a 1998 Gen 2.5 SWB Pajero to which I had a Lexus V8 professionally fitted (Splitronics system with Lexus Autobox).

There is a problem with the alarm system that was probably there even before the V8 was fitted. It goes off intermittently for no reason and on the rare occasion it even goes off when not activated! I believe this is causing an intermittent battery drainage problem that is quite honestly becoming a pain in the butt.
I have done the logical tests and measured the current draw on the battery at rest. Its in the region of 230mA most of the time but will occasionally go up to 300mA. Every single fuse has been pulled while monitoring the load and nothing changes it so there is nothing else interfering. (Ah and battery has been replaced too so its not the battery)

Am I able to disconnect the alarm system at all? If so, how?

Any advice or suggestion appreciated.
Many thanks
Mal

Mal,

1. Do you have a tracking device fitted? Because they are known to draw down battery if their own internal battery goes flat.
2. Is it not the other way round (cause and effect) - the car battery goes low and that triggers the alarm?
3. Maybe there was something done in the conversion that has been tapped straight from the battery - perhaps the Spitztronics ECU is being powered all the time, even when the ignition is off?

Best of luck with finding this PITA.

Sounds like a tracking system....

Thanks for your input Andrew.
I don't imagine the vehicle would have a tracking device... cant be sure but I doubt it very much. Also the draw would be constant then? In my case it is not. When the load is 230mA all is well and the battery stays healthy for 3 or 4 days.
Then suddenly after being out all day I will park it and the next day the battery will be dead. I think that rules out point 3 too.

I guess further investigation will be required. I just wish I could disable the alarm system completely. Its not even shown in any of the electrical drawings.
