Biggest gen 4 tyres

I have an aftermarket front bumper and 40mm lift ( no spacers)

I would like to go down to 16" rimes and fit bigger tyres mainly for better performance in sand.

Will 285/75R16's fit? Good idea? Bad idea?

I ran 285/75/16 on my gen3 for a short while with about 50mm lift. They caught when heavily compressed and also when lightly compressed and turning almost full lock. But I think your biggest challenge would be gearing on the auto box as the torque converter will basically never lock up and cause excess heat build up. Mine is manual so I just lost a few horses and downhill engine braking. All in all nit worth it unless you change the diff ratios as well. I am now on 265/75/16 and they are liveable on the manual but I suspect will also give some hassles on the auto.
I suspect the gen4 not to be a lot different. Also to fit 16 inch rims over the gen4 bigger brake calipers will prove to be very difficult.

I would say - Bad idea

I'm currently running 265/75/16 on a GEN3 auto and 50mm lift. Cats is correct, the auto box does not lock up before 120km/h...closer to 130km/h. Full turn...they do catch the front bumper trim...

I really would have liked it if the box could lock at about 100km/h. My usual cruising speed is about 110km/h on the open road, so that would have been nice.

I bought the pajero with this size tires, once they are kappoet...I'm going back to 265/70/16.

BTW, CATS, those rimes on your pajero, are they standard? That's the only other pajero I've seen so far with the same rims as what I have.

I tried to fit one of Cats's rims (Gen 3) onto my Gen 4.. Wont work, they catch the callipers. Have not found a 16" rim that will fit over them callipers...

No they are not standard. They are in fact Ford Ranger rims, circa 2010. Your Pajero, when it was still with the previous owner, actually inspired me to fit them as I think they are one of the few non standard rims that look very much standard but still give a little bit of a wider stance on the Pajero. Which I like.
