gen 2.5 cargo/boot door handle repair or replacement

Hi guys.

My Pajeros cargo/boot door handle is broken and I have been trying to look around the net for info on fixing it, haven't come up with anything so now I'm here to ask about. Does anyone know how I could get it fixed or just to replace it. I have been thinking of visiting some salvage yards to see what I could find, though before I do I thought I would ask here first. The lever itself actually broke one day when opening the door. Just seems like it became very brittle. I don't even right now how to take the whole unit apart. Perhaps someone here could shed some light on this.

Thing is I am putting a drawer system in soon and it would be a good idea to have this issue sorted before I do.

Any advise or information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

I had a similar problem with mine when i bought it. I got a used handle from martin who runs the pajero scrapyard in pta north, for R350.00. It seems like it is a very common problem as almost every pajero there had this handle taken off.

I did try and get a price from my local dealership for a new one, but im still waiting for them to call back. Maybe you will have more luck with the dealership in your area, as it makes more sense to buy this part new.

To replace the handle you have to strip off the plastic cover on the inside of the door, then you will find 2 8mm nuts holding the handle on. Its really easy to replace.

Mine broke and I welded a replacement together very easily... It won't break again.

Total cost: small piece of scrap angle iron and half an hour.

Hi there.

Thank you for the response.

@Henk_A, How did you go about doing the weld? I'm thinking that if it simple enough I can then drop by my dads place, use his welder play around a bit.

@overambitious, Do you have Martins details? I would like to contact and perhaps drop in for a visit.

Thanks all,

Really do want to get this sorted now, Kinds getting tired of getting into the vehicle everytime to open the rear door, what a ballache

I'll go take a pic of it on the car so you can see what the end result looks like.
