Hi all

I am new to the club and enjoy the reading. I have exchanged my 1997 2.8 SWB at 230 000 km for a 2005 3.2 SWB at 150 000 km with FSH . Hope I won't regret it!

Took the new one to Baviaanskloof and was impressed. However, pse help with the following

First problem:

At 140 km ph it starts to vibrate with a humming sound . It goes away after 145 km ph. Had it at the dealers who said it comes with some Pajeros - it is the fibreglass propshaft that is out of balance. It can not be balanced. So they have to turn it and if lucky, could get a balanced state. If not, it has to be replaced.

Lucky for me, this problem has to be fixed under the sales agreement with the garage.

Any one with experience of this problem? How was it fixed?

Problem 2:

Has a major dust leak into the left hand back side into the toolbox compartment and it goes througt the roof pannels. One could see the dust in the rear compartment light glass above the rear door? Where do I start to look for the leak?


Also, at 150 000 km, any advise what to check for on preventative maintenance matters?

1rst problem.... Fibreglass propshaft??? I really didn't know that these exsist???

You shouldn't be going that fast anyways

2nd problem... Do you have a rear aircon unit? If so, you should find it under the right rear bumper. That is where you might find the dust is being sucked in

It's not fibreglass, but carbon fibre. Mitsu introduced them in the 2002 Pajero.

Yip, carbon fibre, but it was introduced with the Gen 3 in 2000.

I read about this problem on the Ozzi forum, thats where they tend to suck their dust...

Rear Air con unit sits on the right hand rear side so if your dust comes from the left I would start with the air vent situated behind the left upper tail light. Remove tail light, two screws and a slight pull and you should see the cover flap that I am revering to. Make sure this is not stuck in the open position. Also I have found that running on FRESH air with the aircon on and windows closed in dusty conditions have greatly assisted in keeping any dust out. Do not use recycle as the fresh one actually build up pressure inside cabin assisting in keeping dust out. There is a filter behind the cubby hole that catch any dust that may enter in this mode which must be cleaned every now and again.

On the preventative maintenance side I would have the injectors and pump checked/tested by a diesel specialist.
Also replace the top timing chain guide ASAP as this has led to some timing chains breaking.

Other than that, enjoy the truck, those 3.2 DiD's are beauties!

Thanks CATS. Next weekend will be the dust repair weekend. I will also at the next service let hem check the chain and the injectors.

Still working with Mutshi on the propshaft vibration issue. They are ready to repair it ,(fit a new propshaft) but the garage where I bought the vehicle, who promised to repair at their cost, now has 2nd thoughts, after seeing the quote. The fight is now on.
