I have a getting worse vibration from 110kmph on my PS.

I have a 2011 Pajero Sport 3.2DiD 90000km Auto 4x4. At about 70000km it started developing a slight vibration. Rear prop-shaft was replaced. It did improve slightly, but then it gradually became worse.

So I replaced the tyres. No improvement. Took it to various fundi's. They claimed front prop-shaft. So Mitsubishi remove both,fitted new universals on the front and balanced both.
Bearings were checked, diffs were checked, chain on transfer was inspected - all were fine.
Other rims with tyres were fitted.
The front prop was removed and the rear lifted, it still vibrates at 110 to 140. Now I am told they all do that .. I do not accept this. Vibration and droning is not the same.

We can not find the fault, Mitsubishi can not find the fault. Head-Office will come and check ...one day when they have time again. Meanwhile, my guarantee expired....

Any ideas from other Pajero owners / fundi's. We tried to exchange prop=shafts between old and new PS, they are not the same length.... but everyone thinks its a prop-shaft...but the fundi's say its 100%

It seems you have basically exhausted all the possible culprits? Must be hell of a frustrating!

Can it not possible be a bent side-shaft? I am just trying to think aloud here as you seem to have cleared all the rest and I see nobody has braved a response as basically no one knows?

Maybe try and put it on a dyno and see if you can possibly spot the offender from the outside at the speed where it shows its ugly head?

So after a call to head-office I got an inspection date, the same week and the Head-Office oke's were there on time. Full inspection - no problem found .. I insisted to change the prop. So they fitted a prop from another PS3.2 . My goodness, the problem was gone.

It was the brand new propshaft fitted under warranty in July? After my complaints about the vibration getting worse, the dealer sent it to specialists. These "specialists" checked and confirmed that the propshaft was 100% after putting it on the balancing machine.

But .. interesting, during inspection from head office it was found that the universal joints were not greased. I just had the 90k service done. Was that not the problem that they never greased the new propshaft?

Of course, by this time the warranty lapsed. Now Head-Office must decide if they want to replace the propshaft again?

So we still wait .. but after the grease the propshaft's vibration is much less.

Have a look at the universal joint angles relative to one another. For optimum balance the 2 joints (front and rear on the same shaft) should be out of phase by 90 degrees. Anything else would possibly add to the vibration experienced.

I have had my suspension raised since 2012/2013 around 60mm EFS coils + Stofpad spacers. The rear EFS coils are the load bearing ones. I do have a Race Chip in since beginning 2014. I now have 83 000km, i started with 36 000Km in 2012.

Soon after i raised the suspension further with the spacers, i had a stone kick up and break my rear left CV boot while driving to Hogsback on the Catchart Dirt road +- 70km. I knwew i kicked the stone up as it was a big bang rattle and knock. When i got home i discovered the CV boot on the side i heard being hit was broken. The CV shop diagnosed it was from and impact. CV was repacked and a new boot fitted

In May last year i developed a hell of a rough vibration under certain circumstances that appeared during acceleration up a long hill occasionally. This got progressively more often and worse by October last year. The CV shop identified the rear left CV was slightly scoured and the raced it and reassembled. As an extra precaution i asked to lower the suspension closer to spec. We took down the suspension by 10mm (reducing the spacers). The vibration reduced to unnoticeable.

Now the vibration is back stronger than before.

It is starting at before 80Km/H and is worse the faster i accelerate to. It immediately smoothes out when i come off the accelerator

I have had the following checked:
* Prop shafts are 99% perfect and in spec - Prop shaft specialist inspection and testdrive
* Gearbox inspection and testdrive - nothing wrong with gearbox
* CV inspection and test drive, nothing wrong with CV's
* Mitsubishi's contribution was to change some bushes and gearbox mountings costing me R8k ... And they think the side drive shaft is bent, but the CV shop doesn't think that is the problem. Mitsu wants me to spend R15k per rear shaft for Shaft assembly, i am not sure about this being the solution
* Tomorrow i will have the tires checked for being out of round
* If there is no golden bullet from the tire check, Monday i am removing the spacers completely to see what that does.

Any ideas ??

I am running out of options other than to give the highly and expensively modified Pajero up and buying a Toyota Tuna ..

If it is accelerator related, then the problem is a CV or U-joint.

You know you have a damaged CV, why not start there?
