Brake shudder and replacement

Hi all,
Most of the posts on this subject recommend replacement with "Power brake". My question ...why do the discs warp causing shudder. I have replaced my discs previously , stripped and cleaned the calipers and lubricated the sliding pins ensuring free movement, and it went well for some time....now the shudder is back.
Is it normal to replace discs at certain intervals?
Do the "Power brake" last longer before developing shudder?
Pajero 2003 Gen 3 347 000 km
Any inputs will be appreciated before i spend an money
Thanks gents

Hi Vick,
I had a judder on my previous Pajero (2006 3.8V6 SWB). When pads were replaced (during the maint plan period), a slight judder escalated into a serious judder. Mitsu had all four discs given a very slight skim. They remained perfect up to the time I traded it some 30k or 40k later.
My current Pajero has a slight judder, but only intermittently.
I have convinced myself the problem isn't warping, but a surface feature. I think the disc develops "sticky" or maybe "slippery" patches. If it is caused by warping, how can mine be intermittent?
All my previous Pajeros never had that problem.

My experience with skimming of disks has not been very good.
The judder returned after a while.
My experience with PowerBrake (on the Touareg) has been very good. Good price, good performance.
The price difference between skimming and replacing is not large enough (for me IAC) to skim.
A compromise could be to skim, but if it returns, replace with PowerBrake disks.
I don't compromise on brakes and tyres.

skimming discs is a short term solution.
Replace the discs. Then you MUST make sure the hub and rim is spotless. Any rust or debris will ruin the run out of the disc and the new disc will warp as well.
When you install new discs, it is paramount you check the run out of the disc with a dial gauge.

Just had my 2013 SWB's (40k km's)discs skimmed at the stealer under warranty. Brakes feel sluggish but then I was used to a sedan before getting this beast

The service agent advised that I should wait 2 weeks before I put in a claim for the rear (if they judder) as Mitsu only entertain one skim at a time.

Forgot to add. Service advisor says that Mitsu authorise replacement of discs after second skim.

Shudder can be a result of warping, but it can also be a result of build up on disks / pads.
Sometimes just a series of progressively harder cadence braking from higher and higher starting speeds can improve this.
These two Powerbrake articles are relevant:
The final word on brake judder and “warped” discs
And
Correct bedding-in of new brake discs and pads

Andrew,
Now that was the most informative reading i have done in a long time. Shows a old dog can learn new tricks.I fully understand the concept of cleaning the mating surfaces when fitting new disc's, but this is the first time i heard of "correct bedding" of the pads....i wonder how many mechanics know this or even advise their customers after fitting new brake parts.
I suppose my fate is sealed...budget for new disc's and pads. I will definitely pay these Power brake people a visit.
Thanks for the feedback received from all.
Happy and safe Km's for you
Andre

Andrew,
Thanks for the articles. They cleared up much of the "darkness" that surrounded brake shudder and the causes of the shudder.
