Gen 3 crank breather

I am in the process of doing some prep work so i can strip out the whole intake system including the manifold and clean it out. The bridge between the tappet cover and intake pipe just annoys me. It is sitting at 312000km some change so who knows how much of that oil vapour has condensated and is lying at the bottom of the intercooler. I made a catch can but I put a small breather filter on it because I don't really feel like closing the loop back into the intake. Would there be any implications if I just plug the hole on the intake and let the crank breathe on its own?

You can't block the crankcase breather - unless you want to blow your seals and have oil all over the floor (and all over the sound deadening inside the bonnet)!

No no... Not block the crank breather, block the hole where it goes into the intake pipe. I want to fit something like this on the breather to keep the vapour out of the intake system...

OK, thanks for clarifying that.

The way I see it is you can do one of two things:
1. Take the outlet from the catch can back to the inlet air system (it should have way less entrained oil than per existing)
2. Let it vent to atmosphere - could get a bit messy inside the engine bay though.

I think I would run with the first option.

BTW Silvertons provides a cleaning service for intercoolers - either they will remove clean (inside and out), pressure test and refit, or you can do the removal & refitting - it is not a difficult job and probably worth while doing occasionally.

Cool thanks Ashton.

I will try it venting into the atmosphere first and see how it goes. I will put a Styrofoam cup over the filter for a few days just to see how much oil escapes. If any oil escapes the filter I will have to go for option 1
