Hi folks,
new to this site, hoping someone can help. Have a 2004 3.2l DiD Pajero, and for no apparent reason I get the Engine and both Traction lights come on. It can vary, sometimes I won't get them for days, other times they're on constantly.
I've seen them come on more often when the temperature is high (I live in Central Queensland, Aus) but other times not. Also they will sometimes go off if I switch off the A/C.
I've checked the diags, and I get Engine Error Code 41 which tells me it's in the Main Throttle Solenoid Valve system, but everything I've checked looks OK (checked all vacuum pipes, electrical connections) only thing I have not checked is the vacuum solenoid itself as I don't have a spare.
Where is this one under the bonnet, and has anyone been able to downlaod the 2003 Montero zip file from under the downloads as mine keeps dropping out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bill.
Hi maverick.
Google for 4epikanini's post on the forum with YouTube clip of correct 4m41 throttle valve operation. The valve closes partially under certain conditions (at idle and when egr is operating) , and closes completely when you switch off the engine to reduce shutdown shudder. It has two vacuum actuators, one top and one bottom, each with set screws to adjust how much they close the throttle flap.
Two possible issues:
1. If the vacuum solenoid isn't operating correctly it will show a CEL (check engine light) event as the ecu is picking up that throttle valve isn't opening/closing as instructed by the ecu.
2. If The amount of valve opening isn't set correctly with the set screws it will show as a CEL event as well. I had the same problem when I adjusted mine incorrectly. As the CEL is happening under running conditions I am sure that is the culprit.
I have downloaded the manual, I will see if I can post a link to the file you need to set the valve correctly.

Thanks Nick, been away for work for a bit, only just saw the reply.
As soon as I get home in a couple of weeks I'll check all this and let you know.

Interesting side note - if we start the car with the A/C and fan turned off, 90% of the time the car will run just fine.
If we get the CEL and Traction lights whilst driving, if we turn off the A/C and fan it will sometimes clear the lights, but not always. Very very weird, unless someone else has come across this??
