Pajero idel and starting issues.
Good evening all.

I am new to the forum but i am keen to help where i can and hopefully be helped with some issues i have been having.

I own a 2006 pajero LWB 3.2DiD and it has been an amaing van runs well and has always gotten me home.

Today i felt the van running a bit rough but not all the time would come and go especially while the engine was ideling and aircon was on.
AnywY as the day went on it stopped and then came back.
I stilped off at my folks house after work and spend about 30 min inside chatting when i returned to my car it would not start not even a light start and the die.
I opened the hood and pumped the diesel filter as bard as i could and once i tried to stArt it again it fired.
Still ran a bit tough but not bad just like a miss almost.

Please could someone assist this car has 340 k on the clock but still runs so well.
Re: Pajero idel and starting issues.
Shew.
Long list to check, but start with the basics:
1. Change out the diesel filter first.
2. If that doesn't work, look that the fuel pickup in the fuel tank is not obstructed or blocked. (dented fuel tank)
3. Check for kinked/pinched fuel lines.
4. Check for air/vacuum leaks in the fuel line and filter assembly.

If that all check our let us know and we can look further!

Thanks i doesn't seem to be cutting out .
I did have a look at the filter yesterday and all seems fine ! Van is going For a full service and to check diesel pipes tomorrow.
Strange thing happened yesterday, after driving it i left it for about a hour and same would not start. Pumped the filter and still nothing left it for about 30 min the mechanic came to look at it and with him arriving it fired up first time with a massive cloud of smoke.

Hi all
I have checked all that i can check for now took the van to a garage that deals with diesel cars and they quoted me R68k to do the pump.
The is absolutely ridiculous and cannot justify the price.
They will not guarantee that this is the issue and if the put the pump back in and it is not the problem then they will not be held liable.
Anyway i have got an auto electrician coming to my place to check all wiring just in case it is a loose wire and if it is still the pump then i have found a company in china that makes the pumps for Mitsubishi that will ship it at half the price .
Just waiting on final pricing before i go this route.

If i get a new pump will it need to be calibrated or can i just bolt it on and go.

Hi grumps. Man, i feel for you I went through a similar issue with my pajero 3 months ago.

See Here:
https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =24&t=6279

The garage needs to pinpoint the problem first before blaming the pump(easiest option) due to the sheer cost of the pump refurb... My guy went through the car from top to tail and deduced that it could only be the pump after exhausting all other avenues, and it was the GE actuator that went up in smoke.

Have they check on all the items listed above by fellow forum members?

If so and all checks out 100%, then....
Take it to a reputable DIESEL INJECTOR and turbo specialist, not a diesel mechanic. They have the special tools and proprietary Bosch test equipment required to check the pump for errors, and often they are aligned with a highly specialised diagnostic auto electrical service station who can work on the MUT II ECU's and wiring.

Unfortunately there are only 2 places in South Africa that can work on these Zexel Covec pumps, if they need repair, and both are in the Jo'burg area. Allan Black in springs and Randburg diesel and turbo. No-one else has the multimillion rand testbench to calibrate the pump once rebuilt with new parts. The diesel injector specialist will have to remove the pump and send it away for refurbishment if faulty, it is quite a job to have it reinstalled with the correct injector timing. Vehicle specific tools and knowledge is definitely required to do this.

PM me if you want more information, I have all the service manuals for the Zexel Covec pump and full chassis electrical manual for the gen3 pajero, and more.

Hi,
My 1999 Pajero was also battling to start in cold weather for the last year and so took it to Rodac in Honeydew Jhb to have it checked out. Needed a pump overhaul and refurbish. cost R5700. Its now a new vehicle.
Cant believe its the same car. Worth every cent of the cost.
