The cv specialist down the road were categoric. The left inner & outer cv joints were stuffed & had to be replaced. The minimum cost was R3800, with the actual cost depending on parts.
I zooted around this site. With envy I read about the lucky swines who serviced their cv's and evolved the problem. Then I remembered, from previous posts, sage advise to get another opinion. I felt cheated when I read that the Paj's cv's were considered bulletproof, almost.......
While I was fitting new tyres at Broadway Tyres (Durban North) Tony recommended I take the car to C.V. Joint Specialists in Umbilo Road. So that's just what I did. I stole 1/2 hour this morning and dropped the big beast off this morning. Drank copious amounts of coffee, totally distracted and prayed to the gods that my luck would change.
Lionel from CV Joint Specialists just buzzed me. The cv was dry as a sun dried bone. He regressed it and put a new rubber thingie on. R850! He recommended I service the right one when I could do it, so, being elated that the gods had heard my desperate plea, the right cv's are being done tomorrow.
All I can say is that word of mouth really worked for me this time, and take what newbies in smarto shops say with a good dose of skepticism and take the time to get another opinion.
There are far too few genuine and honest guys out their with integrity and decency. So, thanks to the old-fashioned jungle drums. CV Joint Specialist's no. is 0313045856. Speak to Morris or Lionel.
One last thing- if anyone else remembers my old posts about all my woes, I had my Paj serviced for just over R2k by Dez, who was recommended on this forum. He brought me the spark plugs that Steve's Auto Clinic had put in. He was shocked. They were suitable for a Citigolf! Since the service, it's going so well. The consumption on the school route and around town has gone from 30l/100kms to around 20l/100kms. Dez's no is 0828575391- he picks up and drops off.
Eventually I'm beginning to understand why I chose the Paj over the Prado.
