Behind bumber mounted winch

Hi,
We have a 3.2 Pajero & want to fit a winch.
I don't want an aftermarket Bullbar type bumper & there appears to be enough space behind the OE plastic to allow a reasonable winch mount & winch.
Any input / suggestions / tips etc will be most welcome.
Thanks
DandB

Is yours a Gen 3 ?

If so, yes it can be done. A colleague of mine did it himself and fitted a Warn winch. He had to cut some of the slots out for the rollers and then mounted the front number plate onto the rollers with spring clips. You had to look close to notice that there was a winch behind there.

Unfortunately he has since traded that in on a Gen 4 so I cant take photos.

I have asked him to dig up the spec of the mounting plate he had made at the time but it was many years ago so might not materialize.

I have a Ramsey winch which I would like to mount in a similar fashion but its geometry is different to a Warn so will have to take the bumper off one sunny weekend and contemplate.

Regards

Thanks Guys,

We are in Durban, but have family in GP so lets talk.

Secondly, our vehicle is Gen 4, LWB.

I think, the solution is to remove the plastic and then the bumper stiffening bracket (to me this only gets in the way & holds the hooter, so an easy sacrifice!)
This will free up plenty of space for a 9500lbs winch.

Cheers

Please can you post an update once you have it installed. I am keen to do the same at some point. Stofpad does winch mountings as well as rocksliders and protection plates. Doesnt list one for Gen 4 but might still be worth giving him a call.
