Hi,

The other day when I started my car the auto gearshift in the car was very stiff. It did however get into gear and performed perfectly while in gear.

However, once the vehicle was parked for a while the gear shift became more stiff and then did not want to engage drive at all. It can reverse and go into neutral.

I cannot drive the car at all now and now the vehicle won't even start.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

I thought I would give everyone an update as I got the problem sorted.

I had the car towed to a local gearbox place here in P.E where they assessed and replaced one of the valves and the valve body on the auto box.

They also fixed the gear shift lever which was not operating correctly.

She is now going like a dream. Very grateful as it did not cost an arm and a leg.

I want to share the following that I have heard from a Jeep owner wrt the auto box getting stuck in park and I had similar problems with the Jeep I owned. I have since adopted the habit of doing what I want to share.
Before you engage "Park" first pull-up the handbrake, put the car in neutral and release the foot brake. If it does not move engage Park, by doing this the weight of the car is held by the park brake and not by the valve block. I think it make sense and might save some wear and tear on the auto box park valve.
