What is the function of this interior light on a Gen4?

I just want find out what is the function of interior light, looked thru the manual but nothing.

I'm guessing its a "mood" light when its dark? Doesn't it light up the centre console in an orange glow?

I simply thought it was an indicator to show the lights are set to "ON".
Mood?? I use my Rockford to create the desired mood

Ha ha, I hope you don't use too much mood music on the mountain with all those other guys and their Pajeros at TITD :)

It is actually shining directly onto your gear lever and is for driving at night so that you know where it is when you want to change gears. Sounds weird but that really is the reason for it. Makes a bit more sense in normal sedans and manual vehicles I would say.
