Hi Guys,
I've got a Gen 2, 2.8TD Pajero 1999 model. The vehicle started shuddering on pull away and only in first and when it was standing still. Let me try to explain better.
When standing still on an incline and pulling away in first, the whole vehicle shudders and seems like it is going to fall apart, but as soon as it started moving and shifting gears everything is fine.
So I took the vehicle in to a guy that my dad recommended and he said my clutch was burnt. Since the vehicle had 220 000km on the clock I said replace, which he did. The Pajero worked fine for about 3 months and the problem was back. He again said that my supposedly new clutch was burnt, which I cannot believe since the car doesn't really drive that much, but I still said fix it. So he started to fix it, but while busy he passed away so one of his workers took over. I finally got the car back 2 months later in very bad shape. It is leaking oil (engine and diff), the dash lights doesn't work (4x4 select lights), break lights doesn't work. Smells bad of oil and it still shudders. It costed me a pretty penny to get a car back that's broken. Needless to say I don't want to take the car back to them since they don't know what they are doing. (This isn't even the whole story, but I'll spare the rest for later).
I then figured out the dash lights aren't working because of a fuse, I replaced the fuse but as soon as I switch on the car it pops again. My brake lights does the same. New fuse, push the breaks, pop.
So I know there is an electrical problem somewhere, but where do I start and how do I fault find the electrical problem?
I would also like to know if someone can recommend a reliable guy that can fix this. Bear in mind I'm in the Alberton area and going to Centurion is a bit far since I don't have transport back. I would like someone that wouldn't mind helping me out since I don't really have a lot of money to spend anymore. The other guys took everything and gave me an even more broken Pajero back. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions on what could be wrong with the shuddering and electrics.
Sjoe. Difficult one. I guess taking a wire that pops fuses and following its full path from end to the battery would be needed. Obviously somewhere it is earthing. Probably under the vehicle at the gearbox where they worked. Maybe the wiring harnass has been pinched when refitting after the clutch replacement. I would start my search there.
