Hi Guys,
I am very happy with my Pajero but would like to fit steel front and rear bumpers. When I baught the car I was surprised to read that the rear bumper is scraping in the sand but I realised it is true when we did the Kgoarib river trail in April. The little spoilers on the front bumper had also to be removed. When we did the Three Provinces at Volksrust the rear bumper got damaged on a rock and that is after I have fitted an OME suspension that gave 40 mm lift.
Are there any recommendations for bumpers? I have tried various suppliers and as you know they all has got the best except that you cannot find any rear bumpers.
Iron Man sells a front bumper for a reasonable price but they say it is for a 2011 model onwards. What is the differnce between the 2010 and 2011 models or can I fit the 2011 model on my 2010 car?
Be Blessed

They're in CT but they make a nice product at a reasonable price, Burnco. Their bumpers are neat. The other option is ARB from 4x4 Megabucks but they won't be cheap. Another option is Maniac but they are also down in the WC.

Piet Prinsloo,
As with all after-market Pajero spares there is the "rich/money" bags way and then the cheap and use your brains way. I prefer and support the second way.
I made a skid-plate that attaches to the rear suspension carrier and to the bumper and this plate provide protection. We have been down Van Zyl's pass, crossed the Namib without any damage to the bumper. The plate gets dinged and bent on trips but once we are home it gets removed, a 4 lb hammer does some talking and then back on the Pajero - ready for the next trip.
Simple and cheap solutions also work and they leave some money in your pocket for beers, trips, etc.

Lynx4x4 built a rear bumper but as Cloyd mentioned, it falls in the very expensive category.
Still nice though if money is not an issue.

I know a guy that had a lynx on his Gen3 and it bent very easily, not strong enough in my opinion. The same happened with the lynx rocksliders, they also bent and damaged his bodywork. But I also cannot comment on the other products.CATS wrote:Lynx4x4 built a rear bumper but as Cloyd mentioned, it falls in the very expensive category.

Lynx gave me a price for rear bumper R13770 but they can not provide me with any photos of it???
Now I'm going to make my own modifications to strengthen it.

So thanks to some advice on this thread I made me some plates to nip and tuck my rear bumper. The corners are still a bit vulnerable but it's a huge improvement.

Mantovani,
It is a start but there are still places where rocks, sticks, etc can get hooked and pull the whole shebang off the Pajero.
With a little bit more plate (I recommend 2mm ally - easy to work with and not so heavy) you could have had a basically fool proof skid plate. Use a bigger piece and start at the rear suspension carrier. Attach with two bolts (the holes for attachment are there already - made by Mitsu).
Extend the plate to the sides and back and attach to the sides and rear of the plastic bumper with proper speed nuts and stainless bolts. By doing it this way the whole rear end is protected and being ally easy to repair with a 4lb hammer if it should get damaged.

Hallo everybody
Thanks for the feedback it is appreciated. Yes ARB was before the rand dropped R25 000 and Lynx quoted a while back R9 000. I like the idea of the skid plate at the bottom of the rear bumper. I must say that the I also went down Van Zyls pass and had no problems and that was still with the standard supension. I have now fitted OME. The problem of catching the bumpers occurs when you travel in deep sand and I had that experience in the Xoarib river trail(I hope it is correct). I had to remove the two front spoilers and the rear I could bend back into position.
As for rock sliders and skid plates I made my own out of 4mm plate and they work perfectly.
You must all be blessed.

Ps Roelf are you riding the Baberton MTB race this weekend? I have entered.
