Losing radio signal

I am a BIG Pajero fan. I am currently driving my third Pajero, a 2010 gen 4 swb. It is amazing to experience the improvement in technology with every upgrade. It is however sad that Pajero lacks out when it comes to radio signal. A couple of years ago I owned a Discovery 4. When I selected a local radio station, it stayed on it until I was out of signal, scanning self for changes in frequency without interruption. Two weeks ago I drove a 2011 Nissan Navara from Kimberly To Pretoria. The first time that I lost signal was near Krugersdorp.(the same as the Discovery) When I drive the same route with my Pajero I constantly have to adjust the radio to stay on the local radio station(OFM).

At some stretches of road I lose it completely. My Pajero has the new radio version in with the lcd screen. I don't know weather the newer models has a better radio in fulfilling this need. If not, am I missing something or do other Pajero owners experience the same problem?

Hi 4x4 pret,
Looks like your first post. Welcome, and yes, Pajeros are great cars.
Have you consulted the radio's manual to make sure you have it set on AF (alternate frequency)?

Hi 4x4 pret,
This is a long shot!!! I am not familiar with the Gen 4 radio, but check if you can select RDS "On/Off".. Maybe our selection is on RDS "OFF".

To add to the other posts, Your radio is probably not at fault, unless there is a setting as described earlier.
Unfortunately this is a "feature" of the build in antenna inside the left rear side window. If you are in the unfortunate situation that the better signal is coming from the right hand side you either have to turn off your radio or turn around and go in the other direction
So yes it is not uncommon on the gen4 Pajero's.
I assume you already have a feature to listen to MP3 or Ipod music? Because this is probably the easiest answer to get some tunes goings without blanked out spaces.
