Gen 3 Starter Removal

Good Morning All,

Can someone please explain to me how to get the STARTER removed from the engine on a Gen 3 4m41 3.2 DiD? I've tried on Saturday to get it out, got the two bolts out that hold it in place (after some loooooong stuggles - seeing that the engines are designed for Japanese hands and not so much for proper size XL BOERTJIE HANDS). I must be missing some small triek as it doesn't look like there is any room to move it backwards (towards radiator).

I've loosened the Automatic Transmission Dipstick as well as the Diesel filter bracket to get easier access, is there anything else that needs to be removed/stripped out before being able to remove the starter?

I've read the two threads (4ePikanini & LowRange) - but that didn't give me the solution of getting the *&#@$!@ starter out...

I just need to replace brushes and clean the starter as the engine is taking its merry time to start - couple of swings instead of the normal immediate firing up. Already checked the battery (90Ah tested yesterday - both Voltage & Load) is 110%.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Much Obliged.

Marius, I sent you a PM.

Is your starter stuck to the engine, or is it free, but you are battling to get it out from the car?

If it is stuck to the engine after removing the two holding bolts and power wire - give it a gentle thud with a rubber hammer. This will release it.

I removed mine from the bottom with the car on trestles - There's no way that you'll get it out from the top.

There's a nice loooong weekend to try again! :(
