Replacement shock absorbers for Pajero

I need to change my shock absorbers but I'm not sure what is the best make to get. I've a 1999 Pajero LWB GDI model (japanese model). I'm not looking for the most expensive as I don't do that much offroading anymore but I live in the eastern cape where the roads are bad and full of potholes. I also do a bit of gravel road driving.
I've read so much conflicting info on the internet. I'm not looking for OME's but something that will at least last a while and give a smooth ride. The nearest city where I can get shock absorbers at a decent price is Port Elizabeth.
Any advice or experiences anybody can give will be appreciated.

Hi Aking, I've got Gabriel HDP on my 1996 LWB Pajero. Paid R3,400 for all 4 in September 2012 from Autozone in PE . No complaints so far.

Hi
I replaced my 1998 gen 2 with EFS, found the price very reasonable but that was 2 years ago. Very happy with the results.

Hi Robbie
it could, it could also be worn bushes on the shocks, it could also be a poor seating on the springs.

Two of my shocks were 'bleeding' and I realised they needed replacement. I also got the Gabriel HDP's. Happy with them so far. One needed replacement a month after fitment, was factory fault and was replaced free of charge.

I went looking for the Gabriel HDP shocks today (for my 2012 SWB) and these are not available. Gabriel cannot even advise on when these will be available.
Will have to find something else then.
Regards
Marius

That's funny, I had spoken to Gaydons motor spares in Durban for Gabriel hdp shocks, they confirmed stock for my gen 3 and were around 4250 for the front and rears... Suggest you call them on 031 319 4000 and see what they can offer you....
Edit: I see your a gen4.. Are they different between gen 3/4?

I went to Creative Wheels in Boksburg and they phoned to get me prices and stock on the Gabriels, the sales person at Creative Weels that told me the HDPs are not available from Gabriel. Also tried Autoquip, no answer from them yet. Waiting for a call from Mikem Suspension as well. I will call Gaydons.
I have no idea whether Gen 3 and 4 uses the same shocks.
