Locking diff question (are the non locking ratios the same?)
I've just got a 2010 Shogun LWB, that doesn't have a locking rear diff, now I don't know if these have any LSD or if they are just open. My question really is I also have a 2002 Shogun LWB and I was wondering if its possible to swap over the rear diffs.

Are the ratios the same?

I see there is wiring where the locking diff button would be.

Occasionally with my 2002 shogun I have found the rear diff lock a life saver, but I'm unfamiliar with what changes were made to the 2010 models and so if for example if has a LSD then I will probably be ok with just leaving that on it...

Any thoughts would be great :)
Re: Locking diff question (are the non locking ratios the same?)
Hi,
Like you, we have a 2010 LWB and I would like a locking rear that I can control. However, we have done trips and challenges in sand, water, mud etc and found that the electronics do a perfectly good job of managing where power is applied, so I have given up looking at expensive diff changes.

Re-reading your post, I get the feeling that you are considering swapping the whole rear axle. There are two major components involved, the crown wheel & pinion determine the ratio, the differential allows the left and right wheels to turn at different rates.
If you swap the whole, assuming that the ratios are the same, then you will be introducing much older kit into your newer Paj, and maybe introducing a weak spot, if you swap only the differentials then you are facing two big bills.

Lots to think about, but I wouldn't bother.

Good Luck.
