First step to off road happiness...
The suspension on my Gen 3 is very harsh. You feel every bump. From what can see the coils are aftermarket as they are red in colour. I can't see any name on them. The shocks too are nameless. I bought the vehicle from Japan with this setup. I want to make the vehicle more off road friendly, not to mention all the potholes in Zimbabwe now! What is the best way to go about this? Change the shocks and see how that does? Change coils? Change coils and shocks? I have been quoted R16K from N14x4 for full Dobinsons set up, coils and springs. I have been reading that the Dobinsons coils are great but the shocks can be hash?? Ironman tell me they have discontinued the suspension for this vehicle as the rear shocks tend to fail on these vehicles but that’s not always the case. If they supply a kit it will be under the condition there will be no warranty. I want to do this right the first time! OME quoted my R23K for full set up. A bit more than i can spend right now. Please anyone any advice on the best way forward.

Hi. I've got a set of original front coils. It was in my Pajero for two days. It did not work with an Arb bull bar. I paid R7000. If you are interested make me an offer. 0826455081

Zimpajero,

Simple advice: Buy a complete set front and rear coils and shocks from a used dealer and fit the whole set yourself. easy peasy.. Be sure to inspect the vehicle that they come from to ensure/satisfy yourself that the donor vehicle has covered less than approx. 100 000km. Both the shocks and coils will/should still be good for another 100 000km giving you time to decide on a new set(s). The used Pajero spares in Pretoria can supply.

R7000 for two coils??? That's ridiculous.

Other options in order of my preference are Tough Dog and EFS, cheaper than OME. I would go Tough Dog only because I installed EFS in my Gen4 and I am still trying to get the setup to my satisfaction (noises at the shock bushes and harsh heavy duty coils up front that I want to change to mediums). And, Mitsubishi uses Tough Dog for their "Legend" versions...

I agree could be a good option. However i am based in Zimbabwe in the middle of Hwange National park so need to do everything online and get a friend in SA to pay and take delivery of the gear and send onto me. I will be fitting whatever i get myself.

Who in SA supply quality steering components ? I'm looking for a quality Idler Arm as Mitsubishi have no local stock for my 1988 2.5 LWB.
