Springs vs Spacers
Hi Guys

Iv read quite a few threads regarding strut spacers and lift spring sets but cant seem to find a solid answer as to which is a better option. I now know that using both is a bad idea and lifting too high puts stress on other suspension parts. I am keen on lifting my NP LWB but unsure of which option to choose. Price on spacers is around R3800 for front and back. I have not been able to find local pricing on springs, can someone give me a rough idea? I bought the car with new shocks installed so no need to change those.

So could I please get your experienced input regarding the pros and cons of the 2 systems?

Thanks
Jade
Re: Springs vs Spacers
JTEC,

You have two choices:

a. The nice and comfy ride of a standard Pajero with about 50mm more air space between the Paj and the ground. In my humble opinion the standard suspension is able to carry all the goodies that a family needs on a trip inside/on top. The option of a "ventertjie" is also available if you need more space. You will then still have the comfy ride before, during and after the trip plus the ability to take garden refuse to the dump in the "ventertjie".

b. OR the ability of being able to carry more weight and more ground clearance to the detriment of comfortable ride before, during and after. If more space is needed over and above your super carrier, a "ventertjie" will still be required.

A set of aftermarket springs will cost about the same as a lifting set (can supply at ±R2200,00) plus a "ventertjie".

Re: Springs vs Spacers
I fitted aftermarket springs and shocks for some lift. I ended up with a harsh ride. Cost a lot of money. If I could do it over again it would have been Uys's spacers in the front and air helpers in the rear coils

Thanks gents @cloyd @CasperA ...appreciate the comments.

Cloyd summarize it well.

I can just add that fitting spacers also firm up the ride so beware that you will loose some comfort as well with just spacers.

No change on suspension is an "upgrade". It is a change to suite specific requirements, like higher load carrying, but all of them will have positive and negative effects.

Re: Springs vs Spacers
May I ask, what the purpose of the lift is for.

More clearance
More weight carrying capacity
Firmer ride
More articulation.

if no 2 is a priority then the pink bags work well. Had them on my Gen 2 and have them on my current ride. Very little difference to ride comfort but levels the car nicely with my drawer system in the back.

Thanks gents.

@Stranger Looking at getting more clearance, Would like to swop out to 16" steels with a slightly bigger tyre...at a later stage when i need to carry more weight i would consider fitting bags.

Re: Springs vs Spacers
If you want the clearance for off roading I would go for springs and not just spacers, it is just my personal opinion though. Tough dog springs go at a little bid more than the spacers you quoted. You also need to keep in mind that your standard shocks will have to be changed when you put on the longer springs.

Not true on the shocks to be changed when going longer coils. Not on the Pajero in any case.

Re: Springs vs Spacers
Well, that is news to me, thank you Cats, the salesman here in my town told me that. I bought my Pajero with OME shocks in, but the springs I am not sure of, they are blue in colour, and the back of my Pajero is hanging if I only hook my Town and Country trailer.
