Gen 1 Pajero maintenance hints

A tip that I would like to pass on to Gen 1 owners is that the self adjusting rear disk brakes will only adjust if the handbrake cable is fully released and the cables are completely slackened off with the adjusting nut at the cable yoke. Applying the brakes while reversing will then allow the self adjusting mechanism to operate. It is then necessary to tighten up the yoke nut to give the desired position of the handbrake when applied.

Another tip is never to use Goodyear 'Gatorback' belts. I replaced the fan belt some time ago because it had stretched. Within 2,500 kms the Gatorback belt had shredded and disintigrated. The first time this happened at the 'Spaghetti Junction' in Durban and I blew a radiator hose because I could not stop immediately. My son came to the rescue with another Gatorback belt and a hose and I fitted them on the side of the road. 2,000 kms later the new Gatorback belt shredded. This time I replaced it with a manufacturer's belt and this has now been running for 30,000 kms and shows no signs of wear.

Hey Marty,

Do you know where I can get fan belts for the Pajero IO? :?:
