I have just bought a new Exceed LWB. The two pieces of the tow hitch are secured with a bolt through the square tubing. In front of the bolt there is a shiny pin with a split pin. This also goes through the square tubing. What is the purpose of this pin ?

The pin is what keeps it all together else the tow hitch will stay behind with the trailer. The bolt only prevents rattling.
