After market turbo with oil cooler/additional reservoir?

Hi All,
I recently purchased a Pajero 2008 3.2 which had 2 previous owners, its got 290 000km on the clock.
One of my mates is a bit of a diesel head and when we were inspecting the engine last weekend he noticed some strange modification to the engine bay, upon inspection we saw that the vehicle had an after market turbo installed in place of the original one. Leading from the turbo was some sort of plumbing lines connected to what looked like some reservoir near the front-right head lamp (pics below). In his point of view this was very poor practice and done with what looks like plumbing parts and an "IZUZU" bracket so he wants to take the whole thing out and restore it to its "original" design.
Just want to ask has anyone seen something like this before and what would the reason for something like this be? Also any risk of causing major issues if we took out the plumbing and restored it with an original Banjo bolt?
Cheers
