Colt Diff

Hi Guys,

The time has come for me to start looking at repairing the Colt's rear diff. I found a broken tooth(?) when changing the oil. That was a while ago. Initially the diff was quiet. Recently, I have picked up a wah-wah-wah sound coming from the rear. It is definitely becoming worse. In addition, I now have a vibration when going faster than 90ish??? Vibration is definitely from the rear, too. Could this be the diff? I'll swap out the wheels tonight to take them out of the equation. I'm not too concerned about the sound, but the vibration is not good.

Now, the Mitsu diff is quite robust. I've spoken to the spares guys and they can get me a used unit for R5800 (incl) + R1700 fitment. Do I go that route? Not sure that I would want a scrapyard mechanic install a diff? Or would it make more sense to have a diff specialist open the diff and repair the existing diff? I'm worried that I might end up paying too much either way. I also don't want the vehicle to be standing for too long, if possible. Any recommendations in larger Cape Town?

Your opinion?

My suggestion will be by getting the diff repaired as that will be the cheaper option.

You have the housing and there is nothing wrong only the internals that needs replacement and with tech knowledge and the right tools nothing is impossible in your own garage.

Just a thought...
