Hi. I have just taken delivery of a 3500 V6 2002 5 door Pajero.
I noticed that in 2H drive modem there is a whirring sound that is evident as you increase speed, and then decreases as you decrease speed till about 5KM/h and then there is a "clunk" as if something is disengaging. If I speed up again the whirring comes back, only to disengage at about 5KM/H again. If I put the vehicle into 4H and drive in permanent 4WD - no noise. I can only assume that something isn't disengaging correctly when in 2H? Has anyone else experienced this and can you suggest a remedy? Thanks all!

Re: Transfer case noise
Hi
Had the same symptoms for some with my 3.2 auto.Apparently the defualt state of the gearbox is 4H, so when you engage 2H ,your vacume control does this.If the vacume system does not hold the vacume it resets back to 4H.
So i bought a new vacume housing installed it and all is well now.You will find it under the bonet on the left hand wheel arch, easy to replace.Goodluck.
