Winch Plate

Hi Guys.

Do you perhaps know if there is a standard winch plate (that will fit behind the original bumper) available for the Gen3 and if so any ideas who can supply?

I have tried our local 4x4 shops withot any success as well as Tow Master (cause I thought I may get a combination winch plate and front tow bar).

If not I will have to fabricate one but I would rather watch the rugby final on Saturday. Also If I fabricate I am a little nervous as to where I can drill for mounting - I would hate to drill through an air bag sensor :-)

Thanks for your help!

I got a Gen 4, but Safari Cntr made mine.

I am not sure if they have them lying around or if they are made to order / suit.

Hi KaiV.

Thanks for the reply.

Tackled this job on Sunday and it turned out to be so easy that I am embarrassed that I ever thought of buying a plate.

The chassis already has a number of predrilled holes to choose from so there is no danger of damaging something like the air bag sensors.

Had some 6mm stainless plate that worked out just the right size for the job and although its not 100% installed, the “hard” (read that as time consuming) bit is done.

Found some pics of a similar one to mine. Sorry, but really not sure if its for a Paj or another wannabe 4x4

One thing’s for sure, my home fabricated winch plate will never look as good as these pictures.

I am beginning to think that I may have wasted my Sunday because my plate is designed to fit the winch behind the bumper with just the fairlead visible from the front but with the winch in that position I cannot get to the lever to disengage the drum to spool the cable off the drum. I have to wind the cable off electrically and this adds to the heat of the winch motor. I may have to relook at the mounting and mount the entire winch in front of the vehicle.

Makes two of us.....:(
I can get to it if I do half a Houdini and at the same time dislocate half my fingers and end up with spanner rash on my hands though..... Not condusive to doing whilst the car is stuck in a mudpool (It does happen  )
I want to make a hole in the bumper where I can insert a pipe with a cut out so I can engage / disengage it.
