The onset of the "noise" was with the 2007 model, According to the dealer and factory people who tested and diagnosed etc, it was in their general terms " a turbo noise" - "replace the turbo and EGR valve" (under warranty). It was not long when the noise was back and I decided to get rid of the problem. Come the 2009 model - no noise up to +- 10000kms and then it started, the same result. This time however, there was an added dimension and an underpowered engine which gave me a wonderful excuse to get rid of the thing. 2010 model with the new engine - at last, heaven - no noise. On a trip back from the west coast at 17000kms the dreaded noise started again. We started all over again, frustrated dealers trying to solve a problem to which they have no solution. More factory reps and more turbos and EGR valves.
Are you thus saying that you have experienced this same noise on THREE different vehicles, although all were the 3.2Did variant as fitted on the Gen3(CK) up to current Gen4(BK) Pajeros?

I would not consider myself a Gen3/Gen4 expert but having owned 2 and following internet threads for the last 10years on these vehicles, specifically, I do have some fixed thoughts on them. I must admit that I have yet to get such a strong negative problem with regard to EGR noises. What I am trying to say is that the possibility is there that it is linked to EGR, especially with you commenting on the noise going away when the plug is unplugged, but I am still not convinced that the noise is in fact linked to EGR.
How prominint is this noise? Does passengers for example comment on it? Where does it seem to emmanate from? I am trying to get some idea as to this noise as it really interest me, not being a very common occurance overall from my experience, but yet you have encountered it in all 3 vehicles. I would love to get the final outcome of your investigation. Please do keep us updated.
