Hi Marius,

I did clean the grey connector and I still have the same problem.

I also cleaned all the connectoers again and the revcounter still does not work and I suppose that is why Pajero does not carry on idleing.

As soon as I get the Pajero to work I will get rid of it - I'm not happy with a diesel!

Had similar idling and spontaneous over revving before, also went to dealers who told me the diesel pump needs replacing. However thanks to pajero club forum i found a number of threads about the infamous speed sensors on the diesel pump that needs replacing. Do a search for speed sensors, or injection timing and you will find numerous posts on this issue. It sorted my problem for under R300. Hope you find the solution.

Jip. That was my next possible suggestion.

That 3.2 engine is one THE most reliable engines (petrol or diesel) out there. It just needs some love from a knowledgable person when it does fail and very seldom does it need expensive repairs.

Try the speed sensors as as a last option. If it is that, then drive it for 2-3 months and see how you feel then. My harsh decision to trade my pajero didnt work out as sunshine and roses. I like my treg now but after a R50k engine swap i doubt ill ever have the trust in it like i did in my pajero.

How do I replace the sensor? Do I have to take out the whole diesel pump?

I saw the one connector on top of the pump and that I think is the one sensor but I can not disconnect the connector to see if it is in a good condition.

The guys from Mitspro might come and see the Pajero at my house tomorrow evening.

Some report doing it in situ. Some report pump removal. I havent done it myself so cant help there im afraid.

When I was at Alan Black / Go Power the other day I watched their fundis replace the two speed sensors on forum member JohnnyD's SWB without removing the pump. All they did was remove the battery box (and the air delivery piping to the air filter I think). The job looked a bit fiddly but is certainly possible without removing the pump - that is how they do it.

I tried to start the Pajero this afternoon and I still had the same problem!

I then removed the battery to see if I can get to the speed sensors but could not see them so I must be stupid.

I still found a lot of oil there and used the engine cleaner to try and clean that area and later sprayed it with water to clean it.

Put the battery back and started the Pajero and it idle with the revcounter working and the only problem was that it could not rev up. I then remove the vacuum pipe again so that the butterfly can open and the reving was per perfect. I let it run for about 15 minutes and then switched it off and tried to start it again - now the problem is back again!!

I wonder if it is not a wiring problem?

The Pajero is going to Alan Black on Tuesday and as soon as it get fixed I will sell it!

I was told today that the speed sensors were replaced but that did not fix the problem and now it will cost my about R18 000.00 to get the diesel pump fixed!!
