I fail to see the difference between an engine getting wet from being driven through dirty salty water and being rinsed with clean water.

If the engine should not be running when being rinsed, how can it be ok to have it running when driving through water (even 500-700mm deep)?

I also fail to see hwy a radiator should be flushed due to grit on the road. There should be now way for that stuff to get into the radiator.

Maybe the outside to get grit out of the fins but surely not a yearly flush???

Re cleaning radiators.

Our dirt just cakes on. Literally. It's now wet outside, I'll get you pics when it's dry.

During winter we can only wash cars on specialized heated manual carwashes, I ask them to always give the rad a rinse, otherwise I'd have to spend 300$+ on a radiator cleaning service performed at the dealer's which involves purging the aircon, cooling system, dismantling both rads, washing them, putting them back on.

As to why you should not run your engine. Well, you can) Matter of fact, go ahead) Though let me remind you, that direct spray from a pressure washer's nozzle is quite different from splashing some water on))))

Cheers!

I never advocated using a high pressure washer to rinse off the engine. :?

This is what I said:
Leave for a while, and rinse down with water (while engine is running).
We have very mild weather in most of South Africa, which means we can wash our engines on a regular basis, which will prevent any substantial build-up of grime.

We also do not have road salt applied to our roads at all.

Yes, I went to Johannesburg once a while ago, found the weather rather enjoyable) My advice was dedicated to some of the more weathered engines, where many years of buildup are comparable of what we get here over one winter)

Cheers!
