Engine light on Gen4

I have a 2007 Gen4 "GLX" DID with 281000km. I have serviced ot for that last couple of services all according to the book. However, the engine light came on this week. How can I read the error codes without a scanner/machine. The procedure for the Gen3 by which you ground terminal 1 does not seem to work. The engine light does not blink. Just stays on. Also how does one reset it? Please, any advise?

Hi Protos,

Mine did something similar at 158,000km. Took it to Mitspro in Centurian and they stuck a laptop on and found it was the diesel filter needing a change. this was after they mentioned to me before diagnosing that it was probably the filter. Maybe yours also needs a change.

Anyway, you'd have to get a laptop connected to it it seems.

Hallo GC

Thank you very much. It was the problem. And I did take it to the Friendly guys at Motomid Middelburg who helped me.

The question is still where one can find a connecting cable to connect a PC to the ECU? Alternatively where to find a wiring diagram to build one; and then the software?

Kind Regards

That is Great News! Glad it worked for you. on the cable - I'm not sure the cable is your only problem. The diagnostic software is also hard to come by (I've heard anyway) and very expensive. I was told R57k for the package that lets you diagnose and adjust settings. So to me it's worth the odd few hundred bucks once in a while to just take it to a proper workshop for them to run through issues (only two found in 7 years) and reset the small-quantity-learnings settings. (??)

Cheers,
