Towing with swb Pajero 1998 v6 3000
Good morning
Need some advice on how suitable the swb v6 3000 is for towing. I am pulling my venter super 6
down to the coast. Full load with all the camping equipment. Have always travelled down with our Scenic 1.9dci diesel which has towed the trailer with no problem. Down to the Westcoast(Veldrift). The Pajero just seems to feel very "pap" as soon as I hook on the trailer(venter) during a couple of trial runs around the Jhb area? Worried about the uphill passes in the Ceres vicinty one we have turned of at Touws rivier.
Thinking of upgrading to a camping trailer i.e the Jurgens 140xt next year but not sure whether the Pajero will cope with the heavier trailer?
Tks

The pajero should be much more suitable than the Scenic Diesel.

In fact, I dragged my (fully loaded) Elite 6 Venter trailer with a locked wheel for 20 odd metres without feeling it. Was it not for the noise, I would probably have dragged it until the wheel popped!

If your car is "pap" when towing, you may want to check that it is set up optimally. It just seems that something is not right. These cars can drag a train of Venters. It shouldn't feel one. Have your car checked out, and test drive with a loaded trailer.

Something is wrong there...

If you have grown accustomed to tow with a diesel (even a 1.9TD), towing with a petrol-engined SUV will always make you feel that it is a bit "pap".

The V6 needs to be at rather high rpm to develop it's best.
Keeping it there (high rpm) will cause a pain in the back pocket (wallet) though - you choose.

I had a 3000 V6 LWB and it had more than enough power for pulling a trailer but like 4ePajero said, you have to keep the revs up when an uphill comes or when you need some oomph.

NOTE : revving that v6 makes the oil refineries very happy!

Tks to all for the feedback. I have noticed that burning feeling in the backpocket when the revs are up!
I will have the settings/tuning checked out again - v6 3l must have power somewhere in the higher spectrum i.e when travelling at 110km +- 3100 rpm and 4th gear and you put foot it should have some oomph going upthe hill. I travelled to Marble Hall(Arabie dam) and back over the weekend with the trailer in tow(not loaded to capicity). On one or two of the longer uphill sections I had to gear down to 3rd gear to not let the engine labour(keep the revs up 4000)
