Re: Who loves the sound of a diesel?
There's a saying out there.
Don't drink, don't smoke, eat healthy... die anyway.
I subscribe to
Drive diesel, save money... die anyway.

Re: Who loves the sound of a diesel?
I am not so sure about the sound, that roar when you stab the throttle and watch the rev counter spin and then the lunge forward when the clutch is released takes a lot to beat, somehow I don't think it resides under a diesel's bonnet. If you think a turbo sounds good on a v6 diesel you have not heard a pair on a 3l v6  Stereo dump valves

What you save in fuel on a diesel you make up for in maintenance

OFF TOPIC

I beg to differ - I can do 2 oil changes for the price of a set of spark plugs on my old passat

OFF TOPIC

Again it's not about what is actually stronger or faster, I just love the sound of my diesel (agricultural or not). Maybe it's because I just took a farm job!

4ePajero,
I offered you the torque and consumption advantage in my response 8-) , I refuse to budge my position on the topic of this thread

I swapped a DiD for the 3.8V6 and know that the V6 sounds better than the diesel at "purring" revs and sounds much better when the revs start to climb (and climb.... and CLIMB...) in anger!

Re: Who loves the sound of a diesel?
So who brought in fuel consumption on a thread that asked about the sound of a diesel engine???????
Re: Who loves the sound of a diesel?
4ePikanini,

My twisted analytical brain came up with the following conclusions:

1) Diesel owners agree with you, they just love the sound of a diesel.
2) The petrol owners also agree with you, they love the sound of the Pajero diesel. It's just that they love the sound of the V6 more.
3) You are childish to rev the engine in a carpark. but at leat it put a smile on your face.

and finally

4) We'll all die anyway.

...
Johnny,

Tell me you've never revved in an enclosed area (such as a car-park). 8-)

I love that sound! Any big engine sounds great in a carpark.

I guess it it true that boys will remain to be boys, and all that will change is the size of our toys!

You must see SWAMBO and the daughters dive under the dash and seats when I approach an under-roof area
