4high not engaging
Hi Guys

I replaced my transfer case lever yesterday ,the ball in the old one was badly worn .After i did this my dash lights went all wonky and i figured that the solonoids broke ,(replaced it with a second hand pair 5 days earlier ) When i engage high it engages but not completely ,the car drives but it feels like a clutch is slipping and not engaging properly ,so i move at a clawl .Low range engages 100%
i have a 1998 3l v6 swb . i do not think i damaged anything when removing the lever .I will replace my old solunoid tonight and see it something changes .Any ideas ? I'm rather stuck and do not want to go to the stealers ,everything was working 100% before and now i have %$# it up .I have had so many bad experiences with mechanics i'd rather do it myself :( Please help
froos

do you mean that you cannot move the transfer gear lever properly into 4HLC. If this is the case, then it might be similar to a problem I had earlier this year.
My problem was that I tried moving from 4LLc to 4HLc while moving :o , which resulted in a screaming gearbox and then after I managed to move it back to 4LLc I could not select 4HLc at all. I know it is npot excatly the same issue, but here is what I found when fixing my problem.

The transfer case has two levers inside, one for selecting 4L and another that moves from 4HLc to 4H to 2H. In my case the moving of the lever while not staionary caused some backlash in the transfer case, resulting in these levers moving in such a way that the transfer case lever could be moved between the two levers inside. I had to move the levers so that the gap in each of the two lined up (which then puts the car in 4HLc). It could be that when installing the new transfer case lever you moved the 4HLc lever into a position where the transfer case lever cannot move from its position in 4LLc to 4HLc. The other option might be the positioning of the spring that presses against the lever, but I am not sure if that could cause any problems other than not putting tension on the transfercase lever.
