I need your advice please.
We just came back from a test drive on a 2004 SWB Pajero. I convinced Swambo to trade the BMW for a Pajero. The car looks fine and after I've shopped around I found this one and the price was very attractive though.
It is a private sale. A White 2004 SWB 3.5 petrol with an auto box and 186000kms on the clock.
The asking price is R119000.
Is the price OK?
Is this a good model.(anyone with experience on this vehicle)
I actually wanted a DID 3.2 hence the price of this one seems OK? is there a big difference except fuel consumption?
Thanks
Price sounds Ok I think. The 2004 is a change over year for the Gen3 pajero in SA. So you could have the pre-facelift or post-facelift model. Make sure about that when you compare it to other 2004 models. The facelift model had round foglights and the pre-facelift had rectangular foglights. This is not the only difference of course but is the easiest way to determine where it fits. IIRC the post facelift came with a lot of goodies as standard to sweeten the deal like sunroof etc, so there should be a definate difference in price. I am not too clued up on the SWB specifications though, being a LWB man myself, but as far as I know there always was just one spec level in SA for the SWB being GLS.renier.dejongh wrote:I need your advice please.

The mileage is a bit high for a 2004 model I would say, but the engines are good and should not be a worry.

Cats,
You are correct about a big change during 2004, but the round fog lights were introduced in 2003. The 2004 change was the traction control and sun roof.

Correct, Roelf.
Was 2004 not also the year the 3.8 replaced the 3.5? Perhaps this one is an "old stock" 2003 3.5 that was only registered in 2004?

Gerrit,
Yip, I aslo cottoned onto that after my post.
Renier,
I don't think it is a train smash at all. The 3.5 has pedigree longer than your arm and difflock is preferred by many over traction control.
The safety aspect of the stability control is rather big in my opinion, but the SWB is so increadibly stable on the road, that I battle to get the electronics to interfere, where on the LWB the electronic control was almost in my face the whole time.
All and all, I think if the car is in good nick with a decent service history, then the price is good. I think it is time for the third cam belt to be installed, maybe check the service if it was done at 180k, if not, don't delay.
The autobox was almost certainly designed for the petrol engine, I find the autobox much more pleasant and unobtrusive in the V6 than on my previous DiD's.
