Hi Guys,
Are there any dangers in buying a second hand roofrack? What should I look out for?
I drive a 2006 SWB. What would be the correct size(dimensions) of a r/rack that will fit my Paj? I'm looking at 2 different frontrunner windcheetah's that both came off double cabs.
Thanks!
It's easy to see whether a roof rack is in good nick, or not.
The problem is the mounting system.
The Gen3 and Gen4 use rails integrated into the roof.
If FrontRunner does not make fittings for these, you will have to get them from the dealers.

Hi Gerhard,
On the Frontrunner website they say that they use, what they call, "grab-on" rail clips. These fit onto they existing roofrails and then to the roofrack to fit the 2 together. Pictures below..
Are they any good? Will they last?

If you have the standard roof rails, I would trust FrontFunner to design and build suitable clips/fasteners.
You could always add a safety chain / rope between the rails and the rack (assuming the rails are fixed properly to the vehicle).
I have not heard of FrontRunner racks failing.
I have an "ancient" FrontRunner rack on my Gen1 and have never had any problem.

Are these standard roof rails and clip-on brackets strong enough to carry a rooftop tent and two people?
I have the Frontrunner clamp-on roofrack.
In 2006 a Polo decided to cross the N4 into my path. The Polo will never cross any path ever again, but the loaded roofrack didn't budge or move an inch during the impact. I will happily sleep on mine, if I ever decide to go the rooftop tent route.

According to the frontrunner website it can carry a rooftop tent with the clip-on's. They do, however, also say that you can't load it as heavy as with the other fittings. This suits me fine, don't know about you guys, but I don't think you should put that many heavy stuff on the roof anyway! Firstly, it's a schlep to get the stuff up and down from there and, secondly, it can make the Paj top-heavy!

What is the quote on the clips? I also have a Wind Cheetha roofrack, but don't want to connect it permanently to the roof.

I used to have the Rhino clips, but these did not survive a trip into the garage.... Not me, a friend. Hence me now having the Frontrunner "replacements".
They are bent plate jobs which in my opinion are nowhere near the quality nor seem reliable enough for my liking.
Would a RR from a double cab fit on the Paj? Normally no, but it depends on what width the double cab was. My Colt Frontrunner rack does fit the Paj, but not much adjustment available.
