Japanese import vs. South Africa Pajero Gen 3
Hello, I live in Lesotho (right smack dab in the middle of South Africa) and currently have a 1993 2.5TD Pajero (import). We have had some maintenance issues and are thinking of getting a newer Pajero. I can't afford a South Africa spec Pajero but am looking at importing a Japanese Gen 3 Pajero (3.5 LWB GDI).
I have looked and see the biggest difference in the EFI for South Africa and the GDI (gasoline Direct Injection) for the import Pajero. Is this the only difference in Pajeros? Will I have a big problem with maintenance down the road? I can get a 2001 Gen 3 LWB 3.5 Pajero for about 85,000 R. I appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny

All i can say is that i just sold my 2000 - 3.5 GDI import approximately 9 months ago and purchased a 3.2 Did and what a mistake i made, I drove the 3.5 for 7 years and what a pleasure with no problems what so ever. I live in Walvis Bay Namibia and a 4X4 is a must. All i can say if it has had its regular services as prescibed you cannot go wrong, thats my view on the 1 i had

Calvin - Have you ever had any problems with the GDI setup while in Namibia? Is it possible to get spares and maintenance done on the GDI model? I like the 3.2 Did because it is the same as the local version.
Thanks

No problem what so ever, I purchased any spares on the shelf from the Mercedes agents in Walvisbay who are the pajero agents and also purchased quite a bit of spares in Cape town paarden eiland by using the VIN number and have never been let down including interior clips etc for the doors and always available
good luck
