275/70/16 Good or Bad idea
 ok what i know about tyres is very dangerous , my pair is becoming thin and don't want too spend too much on it as we have a baby on the way ..

I currently have 265/70/16 and can get a good set of 275/70/16 (not 265/65/16 as mentioned before edit) for a good price ...

how much of a difference will this make - i have an auto SWB will this do damage to anything having slightly broader tyer??

your advice appreciated !

the circumference will change so you will have increased wear and instability in anything other than 4h

you can get those tyres as long as they go on as a pair in front or as a pair at the back and NEVER use anything other than 2H.
Re: 275/70/16 Good or Bad idea
I think what Marius is trying to say is:
  • the circumference is different from the 265/70/16 tyres
  • it is not advisable to use different size tyre on different axles (front & rear) or on the same axle, left and right
If you use it on one axle, you should restrict your transfer case mode to 2H, under which circumstances it should be OK.

sorry Marius and Gerhard i miss informed earlier -typo

I am looking at 275/70/16 to replace 265/70/16 so its the width? , also it will be all four tyres .
advisable or not ?

Re: 275/70/16 Good or Bad idea
that will be fine

remember the 265/70/16 = width/sidewall percentage of tyre-rim radius/rim diameter in inches.

so if the last 2 are the same as the previous set then it should be fine although there is significant difference IMHO between new tyres' circumference and tread worn tyres' circumference.

Generally tyres should be replaced as a set of 5 as 5 tyre rotation is the best way to go about it. I don't take chances with safety bits (ie. tyres brakes, steering & suspension)
