Gearbox whine
Hi All

I am fairly new to the forum (read some articles etc, but new made a post)

I was wondering if someone could give some advice.

I have a 97 pajero SWB (V6 3.0L). The gearbox had a bit of a whine and i took it too centurion gearbox and diff. They seems to have a very good rep. The car has been there for about a week and a half. They origionaly replaced the 5th gear and a bearing (something with the 5th gear too). And the gearbox still carried on making the noise. The guys have stripped the box several times, checked bearing and all sorts and when they put it back the box still makes a noise.

The noise sounds like a bearing or something, and when you press the clutch in it goes away. When you release the clutch the noise is back. The guys at the gerarbox place are at there wits end as they are really stumped.

Any body with suggestions or advice. We heading off to moz next week wednesday but would like to head that way knowing the box is 100%

Matjero,

Welcome here.

4ePikanini's opinion sounds right, but I am shocked that the professionals did not look there first!?

Pity you did not get to ask here first. The pro's often miss the obvious...

Did the mechanic work on the car based on your description? or did he take the vehicle for a drive himself to listen to the noise?

Hi
I am new to the forum and would like some info on my 1997 3l Pajero gearbox whine. When you press the clutch in the whine goes away. When you release the clutch the noise is back.If it is the thrust bearing should it not be the other way round?
I was also going to take it to a garage for repairs but if it is definitely the thrust bearing, then I can fix it myself.

Would appreciate a reply.
Thank you.
