OIL CHANGE INFO NEEDED,PLEEZE! (Drivetrain)
HI Guys.
as my pajero has been playing in the water a lot i would like to change all the oils.
i have never changed the oil in a transfer box before. will diff oil work or is there such a thing as transferbox oil?
i havent done any research on transfer box oil replacement yet, been a bit lazy, so taking a short cut and just asking.
also, the pajero which has done only 72000km has always been lubed with total products,no other oil has ever gone in . i have always used castrol, mainly because i could always get hold of it easily.
so now my motor needs a top up, i dont have total quartz oil, can i top up with castrol synthetic with the total synthetic or should i just drain oil and put in castrol? .its just had its 70000km total oil service!

Just make sure that you don't have a ls rear diff as it uses a different type of oil, if you put normal diff oil in you will end up destroying the ls capability. There is normally a sticker on the outside of the diff with LS on, have a look see.

Hi All

@4E

Could you please send me the capacity (l) of oil needed for the 3.2 gearbox 2002 model?

They charged me for 9.5 litres of gearbox oil. Feel its excessive...

Regards,

Re: OIL CHANGE INFO NEEDED,PLEEZE! (Drivetrain)
After much research, I got the following info for a Gen 2, Manual 2.8TDi :

Diesel Engin Oil {6.5 l}: Delo 400 Multigrade 15W40
Gearbox Oil {3 l} & Transfer case {2.5 l}: Caltex Easy Shift GL-4 75W-90 or Castrol MTF 1067 75w90 Synthetic
Front Diff {1.2 l}: Caltex Thuban GL-5 grade 80w90
Rear Limited Slip Diff {1.6 l}: Castrol LS

PS. I am pretty sure the 3.2DiD all had a DiffLock and therefore shouldn't have a SlipDiff
Re: OIL CHANGE INFO NEEDED,PLEEZE! (Drivetrain)
Gen 3s imported into SA via official channels all have either a lockable rear Torsen limited slip diff (GLSs from 2000 to 2003 and GLXs) or an open diff and electronic traction control (GLSs after 2003).

The lockable Torsen LSD does not require oil with special limited slip diff friction modifiers, as it does not operate on the friction principle. It uses a conventional axle oil.
