ATF Fkuid for 3.2DID - which one?
Gents,

I am busy changing my oil filter and somehow in my haste loosened the gearbox drain plug. Don't I feel stupid at the moment  But it's not a bad ting, so now I can change the ATF too.

I see the booklet specifies a DIA Queen ATF SP III.

Which one do you use and is it available at Midas/Autozone? I am stuck out here in the sticks at the moment and those are the only two shops available.

Your guidance, as usual, is much appreciated. Time is a bit of an issue, seeing that I am not close to the shops and it's Friday.

PS: I see, due to my haste AGAIN, I posted in the wrong section.

any SP III spec oil will do but I highly recommend the dealer's oil. It was 40% cheaper than anywhere else anyway.

4e,

Thank you - I just found that thread and was reading it. So, Mitsu's oil is the best and cheepest, can you believe that.

I see you mention a tranny filter in the AT box - what is this and must it also be replaced?

Dealers are out of stock - they don't even know what I am talking about when asking for the Dia Queen ATF SPIII :?: :?: He had to look on the system in order to be convinced that it's their brand and actually sold it.

Midas has the Textron III @ R192/5L. Should work for now.

My fluid was very black but the filter seemed ok. I would change the filter for a better conscience and to catch whatever gets loosened by the new fresh fluid.

An untested scientific fact is that a new filter makes you sleep better too. Can't work out the relation though.....

I paid R184/4liters. I can't believe the dealer doesn't know about the oil. Do they never service their warranty vehicles' transmission fluids. Shocking!

I can't seem to find the part number on my WinCaps.

Re: ATF Fkuid for 3.2DID - which one?
I will have to change the ATF filter at a later stage - time does not allow for this unforeseen issue right now.

The dealer quoted me R250/5L and Midas quote me R192/5l Textron Type III.

Concerning the Dia Queen SPIII: The parts sales rep said he has never seen or heard off the stuff before. WTH??? This is probably the largest Mitsu dealer in MP. Indeed, how do they then service the AT boxes on their maintenance plans? The plot thickens.... :?

So the tranny filter is just the ATF filter, like an engine oil filter for example?

Thank you for the info & reply.

Correct. If your oil doesn't smell burned and still looks cherry red then it is probably safe to skip the filter.

If you have shifting problems after the change you will know it's the wrong oil for the tranny. I read all over the net that the mitsu autobox clutches are very finnicky when it comes to the oil. If the oil is the wrong grade or old/burnt it will shift funny and may have judders when the torque converter tries to lock up (That was my reason for changing the oil - problem solved)

Re: ATF Fkuid for 3.2DID - which one?
Question remains:

Did the dealer not know what DIA Queen ATF SP III is, but did have their own version of ATFluid?
OR
Did the dealer not know what ATFluid is?
OR
Did the dealer think ATF stands for alcohol tobacco and firearms?
Re: ATF Fkuid for 3.2DID - which one?
The price they quoted is funny, as DiaQueen comes in 4liter containers!

Save yourself the trouble and buy the correct stuff, replacing the filter and flushing the system properly if the mileage is high.

1 - If they have another ATF version, why sell us something differently with their name and part no on it? It is specified in the manual - it does not make sense. So they use ATF fluid on the cars during services, but spec and sell you something else?
2 - Sounds like the parts salesperson did not know that Mitsu had their own branded ATF fluid - which is on the system with a part no. Is nobody buying the stuff, or is the service section not pulling the ATF fluid from the parts center?
3 - :D probably!
