Well I promissed to come back on this topic.
My neighbor works for Sasol and he reckons diesel can be stored for months on end as long as the container is sealed properly.
The reason he supplied is that the mix of ingredients relative density is higher than what is used in Perol and therefore not vapourising as much as petrol. In other words the stuff is thicker and also made to resist much colder ambient temperatures to avaoid freezing and all these together make that diesel when stored in an enclosed container can last very long.
Diesel on it's own can therefore not subtract moisture from the air as is the case with petrol.
his explanation is also the mix of ingridients does not seperate and therefore does not realy expire.
He says that you should however try to recycle every six months or once a year. The only explanantion was that our diesel quality is not up to scratch and prevention is better than cure.
