Hi All
Entertaining the idea of getting a aftermarket bash plate, any suggestions where I can go, I am based in Cape Town in the Southern burbs
Hey, I've been working on some drawings for my Gen3 SWB and chatting to some guys I know in the steel industry with the mind set of doing some custom plates. If you keen for a set let me know (I'm in Vredehoek). Often works out cheaper in bulk.

1. What worries me is that nobody cares or worries about the rear end of the Gen 3 Pajeros. This is the most fulnerable part of the Pajero. If you drive in sand or dunes or the real rocky stuff (eg Van Zyls Pass) , the rear bumper cover will be / shall be pulled off unless you are very lucky.
2. I fitted bash plates to my Pajeroin front in front from behind the standard metal cover in front to the front cross member, and then the next plate rearwards to behind the gearbox cross member and an additional plate from the rear suspension carrier to the rear bumper cover. All of the plates did their duty BUT NB BUT whilst travelling the Namib in December 2010 the rear plate (behind the rear suspension carrier) picked up the most damage ever due to the sand. Thus saving my bumper cover from being ripped off (that is in the sand with no rocks or anything more solid that the sand).
3. The rear plate has earned it's price over and over and I would like to say that the rear plate is the most valuable bash plate underneath my Pajero (the rest of the Palero is fairly well protected).
4. Think about it!!

Hi Guys
Thanks for the input thus far
I feel the point on rear protection to be very valid and will definitely make mention of this when inquiring
@slug3ed, I would be interested
Thanks again!

6 July 2011. Here are some images of my rear bash plate. The damage to it occured in the Namib sand!! I am still trying to get time to "repair" it. Fortunately the plate is aluminium so it is easy to repair - except that when ali bends, it also stretches. What I normally do after a trip, is to take it off and hammer it back into shape. If you look closer you will see some marks on the actual plasic bumper cover. This was caused by rock on our way down Van Zyls Pass. Even there, the ali bash plate did its job. It prevented rocks from catching behind the plastic and pulling it off. I hope this can be of some use to somebody.

6/7 2011. Sorry for adding something else to the rear bash plate story. If members who are interested in fitting a tow bar to their Pajeros look closer to the photos, you will be able to see how little a DUYS tow bar affects the departure angle on my Pajero. It cost a little more - and I do mean only a little more - but it does not affect the departure angle.

Craigdre - I had a front bashplate fitted to my 3.2 swb a few months ago at LA Sport in Ottery. It cost me about R2300 and is great. It's nicely put together and well fitted.
