Hi All
In Feb this year I made the biggest impulse buy of my life - 1998 SWB Pajero 2.8 (no regrets so far).
Knowing very little about the Gen 2's, I only realised that it was an import spec vehicle when a mechanic buddy of mine pointed it out. Am I correct in saying that the SWB Gen 2's were only officially imported with the petrol engines? If so, would like to know if there are any other members who has a SWB Gen 2 with the 2.8 diesel engine?

Welcome here. As far as I know the Gen2 SWB was definately available in SA in 2.8Diesel spec as well, ie not grey import like yours. So parts etc should not be an issue.
What gives your vehicle away as an import to me is the round headlights inside the grill as well as the headlight washers. All official SA spec Pajeros for that period had square headlamps with no headlamp washers IIRC.
