Gents,
Found myself in a waiting room on Thursday and had a page through a 4x4 mag dating back to 2005 (I think). In the letters to the editor section was a well written and honest sounding letter from a Land Rover owner who helped a stranded 3.8V6 Pajero in the Galagadi.
In any case the letter explained that after struggling for almost a whole day to find the reason for the dead engine, they found that the fuel pump's plastic brackets had failed due to age and wear (keep in mind that the 3.8 only hit the market in 2004) on the corrugations of the Galagadi roads. The pump thus sagged and disconnected from a rubber hose. The fix was by removing an inspection plate under the rear seat to gain access and pulling the pump back into position with cable ties. During the same trip the writer came across a second 3.8V6 with the same problem - knowing what to look for it took him 20mins to fix that Pajero.
I place this post to raise two questions:
1)Has anybody else experienced this phenomena?
2)Should us 3.8V6 boys be doing some preventative maintenance?
Thanks
Roelf
Gents if this is the case with a 3.8 wont a 3.5 have the same issue? Is the pumps the same or setup the same?
Just asking

Hi Roelf
Friend of mine who is not driving a Pajero told me the same story he helped a friend with the same problem the plastic casting holding the pump cracks and breaks when driving on really bad roads (corrugation) apparently he made a steel or aluminium housing in the place of the plastic one he said I must make one and keep it in the vehicle for in case. Will give him a call this week to see if he perhaps has a template. Will let you know. Henk

You gents don't happen to have the page in the manual that shows the fuel pump on the SWB ?

Thanks Henk,
Your PDF is saved on my PC and waiting for the right opportunity to find and open that inspection plate. I'll be servicing my daughter's car any weekend soon, maybe when the tools are out and the hands dirty will be the most opportune time.
