Rear Tail lights on Gen 2
My rear tail lights, not those in the bumper, but those in the body work, have globes and wiring connected to them. Why is this, as these lights are not working at all? Can they be connected to work as normal tail lights, or are there function to be dummy lights? I would like to connect them with my normal tail lights, just for more rear visibility when night driving/braking. Hope someone can assist me with this.

Overseas they are

Brakes
Indicators
Reverse light

In RSA they are

Fog lights
Reverse lights

To check that your fog lights work - start the car and switch on your headlights. Now press the dash fog light button next to the speedo cluster. Your rear fog lights in the bodywork should now be on.

It shouldn't be too hard to wire those lights in to work with the brakes and/or indicators, just beware of the ( not so strictly enforced ) governing laws regarding light brightness and location.

Thanks, I will look at that foglights, but I will probably rewire them to work with the normal brake lights.

Bear in mind that the lights are disabled for a purpose. In many countries (including SA) it is illegal to operate a vehicle with those lights and an offset spare wheel. This is why the lights are also in the bumper.

As I understand the law Simon, you may connect the body lights as long as you dont disconnect the bumper lights. This ensures that other road users can see your lights from either side of the vehicle.

I had my foot on the break and it was in reverse as well. I used coal truck trailer globe fittings in the dummy rear lights and connected the fog light to the brake. I fitted a small spotlight at the rear bottom (below the bumper) and will connect it to my existing fog light switch soon. That is for when I hook my boat at night (working light).
